Dear Community Leader,
The Historical
Society of Orange Park is leading a community effort to construct
a new Veterans Memorial that will be located in Magnolia Cemetery.
The purpose of this memorial is to honor our veterans and provide
a venue for public ceremonies as well as a place for quiet reflection
and contemplation.
On February
1, we appeared before the Town Council of Orange Park to present
our plans and seek approval for the proposed Veterans Memorial.
The Council listened to our presentation and voted to approve our
concept for the new memorial.
The concept
calls for the new memorial to be positioned on the east side of
the entrance drive into Magnolia Cemetery. The design of the new
memorial, as shown below, includes
a new monument and a paved area bordered by two brick walls. Six
small plaques, one for each service branch, will be mounted on the
brick walls.
We will
utilize brick pavers, inscribed with the names of our veterans,
to pave the area in front of the new monument. Every brick will
denote a personal connection to our veterans, men and women who
left home and family to serve this country and its citizens.
Upon
completion, the memorial will be presented to the Town of Orange
Park. It will be open to all citizens.
This
memorial is a community project. It will either succeed or fail
based upon the support it receives from the community. To make this
memorial a reality we need your help. The memorial is to be funded
through private contributions and the sale of the aforementioned,
inscribed brick pavers. We ask that you consider making a contribution
toward the completion of this memorial and/or purchase an inscribed
brick paver to honor a veteran. Order forms to either purchase a
brick paver or simply make a contribution are attached. All contributions
can be sent to the Historical Society at the address shown above.
We
also ask that you tell your friends and neighbors about our efforts
and invite them to participate. This is a community effort. With
your help we can make this proposed memorial a reality.
The Historical
Society of Orange Park is a 501(c)(3) corporation and your donations
are tax deductable. Please contact us by mail at the address shown
below or by e-mail at info@ophistory.org.
